Class 8 truck net orders increase during September

According to data released by FTR Associates and the ACT Research Company, the total net orders of Class 8 trucks increased among all North American original equipment manufacturers during September.

Overall, both firms estimated the total net order to be close to 23,500 units, representing a 12 percent jump from August and a 56 percent climb from the same month last year. With August's total rising as well, September is now the second-straight month of greater volume being recorded.

"The orders were at the high end of expectations," said FTR president Eric Starks. "Given the level of order activity, it appears that truckers are not very concerned about a slowing economy. This is a good sign that things are not falling apart."

Starks further relayed that the next three months will "set the stage for 2012," as the industry enters months that are normally strong in regards to truck orders.

Kenny Vieth, president and senior analyst for ACT, also added that the rising net orders is a good indicator of the profitability of truckers and used truck values being strong.
